Coming on the heels of Manila winning the Seoul Smart City Prize Silver Innovation Award in the Human CentriCity Category for its Go! Manila app, the City Council unanimously passed a resolution Thursday, 28 September 2023, lauding the city government for the rare feat.
“Manila continues to break new ground in the realm of human-centric urban development and innovation”, said the resolution authored by Councilors Numero “Uno” Lim and Ruben “Doc J” Buenaventura, both of Second District, and Ernesto “Jong” Isip Jr. of the Third District. “(The Award) reaffirms the City of Manila’s dedication to fostering an urban environment that prioritizes both innovation and inclusivity in the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.
Go! Manila is a digital platform that allows users to transact with frontline city government offices from the comfort of their own homes. Through this system, one can settle real property taxes online and obtain various permits, licenses, and certificates issued by the city government.
Manila was selected for the prize out of 240 entries from all over the world, after a rigorous screening done by experts from the Seoul National University and World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization, an international association of local governments and smart tech solution providers.
Vice Mayor John Marvin “Yul Servo” Nieto led other city officials in receiving the award at a ceremony held in Seoul, South Korea on 26 September 2023.
