Out of 896 Barangay Chairpersons, only a few stood out to be declared Outstanding Barangay Chairpersons in Manila. Chosen by a panel of judges following a strict performance-based criteria, the following Punong Barangays were honored at an awarding ceremony led by Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan at the Manila City Hall last 26 June 2023:

The awardees were cited for the leadership qualities they had shown, including responsiveness, dependability, and ethical conduct and behavior.
The City Council, for its part, gave a similar recognition to the awardees, through a resolution unanimously passed at a regular session held on 27 June 2023.
“This recognition seeks to encourage every barangay leader to always give their best and serve their constituents with distinction”, said 6th District Councilor Carlos Castañeda, who authored the resolution. “It is a known fact that barangay captains are often overworked and yet underpaid, especially at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic”, he added.
