In the regular session presided by Vice Mayor John Marvin “Yul Servo” Nieto last 7 July, 2022, a resolution urging the Public Employment Service Office(PESO) of the City of Manila to conduct quarterly job fairs was approved by the council.
The draft resolution 6902 was filed by Councilor Luciano “Lou” Veloso, where he highlighted and emphasized the role of PESO as mandated by the Republic Act(RA) No. 8759 or the PESO Act of 1999, as amended by R.A. 10691. The main core services of the PESo includes
a.) Labor Market Information
b.) Referral and placement and
c.) Employment coaching and career counseling
This resolution advocated the theme “ Marangal na Trabaho para sa Manilenyo”, with priority for the elderly and out-of-school youth in the communities. It includes the quarterly scheduling of job fairs in the six districts of Manila.
This was also in line with Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan’s employment program which she spoke of during her inaugural speech. The PESO Director also welcomed this approved resolution happily.
