Champions Saluted

At a regular session held on 6 June 2023, the City Council of Manila, presided by Vice Mayor John Marvin “Yul Servo” C. Nieto, recognized Ms. Pearl Xandy Baoas, a resident of District 2, and the Los Cantantes de Manila, for bringing honor to the whole country by winning in international competitions.

In a resolution principally authored by 2nd District Councilor Ruben “Doctor J” Buenaventura, the Council congratulated Baoas on winning gold and bronze medals in the Kumite and Kata categories, respectively, at the Formosa Cup Karate International Championship 2023 held recently at the Ming Dao University in Taiwan.

At the same session, the Council commended the Los Cantantes de Manila (LCDM), a community choir composed of students and a young professionals, for its grand slam finish in the recently concluded 18th International Chamber Choir Competition in Germany. The group bagged the following awards and prizes:

  • Achievement Level I (excellent at an international level): First Prize for Mixed Choir Category;
  • Special Prize for a particularly outstanding, characteristic vocal presentation (Priscilla Magdamo’s Day Baling Mingawa) ;
  • Special Prize for the best interpretation of a romantic choral work (Anton Bruckner’s Christus Factus Est) ; and
  • Publicumspreis (Public’s Choice Award)

The resolution was authored by 3rd District Councilor Arlene “Maile” Atienza.

LCDM was the featured studio choir in this year’s International Masterclass for Choral Conductors, earning it a spotlight in the German press.
