The 12th City Council of Manila lauded two Manila universities for their outstanding performance in the Nursing Licensure Exam (NLE) held last November 2023.
In a resolution authored by Fourth District Councilors Don Juan “DJ” Bagatsing, Joel “JTV” Villanueva, Louisito “Doc Louie” Chua, Krystle Marie “Krys” Bacani, Science Reyes, and Louisa Marie “Lady” Quintos-Tan, the Council lauded the University of Santo Tomas, which attained a passing rate of 100 percent for the ninth consecutive year.
Established in 1946, the school’s College of Nursing is recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Commission on Higher Education.
In a second resolution, the Council commended city-owned Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila for achieving a passing rate of 99.49%, ranking second among the top-performing schools, with four candidates landing in the top ten, including toptocher Aristotle Calayan Castronuevo. The resolution was introduced by Councilor Pamela “Fa” Fugoso of the city’s Third District.
The November 2023 NLE has an overall national passing rate of 80%.
Meanwhile the Council passed another resolution, this time congratulating De La Salle University (DLSU) on winning the UAAP Season 86 Men’s Basketball championship. The Green Archers defeated the UP Fighting Maroons 73 to 69 in the winner-take-all Game Three of the finals, en route to bagging DLSU’s 10th UAAP championship.
The resolution was sponsored by Councilors Timothy Oliver “Tol” Zarcal, Ernesto “Jong” Isip Jr., Jaybee Hizon, Roberto “Bobby” Espiritu, Raymundo “Mon” Yupangco, Terrence Alibarbar, Salvador Phillip Lacuna, and Ricky “Boy” Isip, all of whom are alumni of the school.
